I have just received an interesting news, but sadly I couldn’t attend because I’m working at that day. The news is Richard Stallman is coming to Vienna to give an talk at Technical University. So if you are interested, and you’re nearby to Vienna don’t miss this opportunity – please make an registration email to office at quintessenz dot at – (this is not mandatory, but ensures your place). Want to attend?

Here are the details:

Date/Time: Friday, 1. July 2011. 8 PM CET (from 7 PM doors are open)
Place: Technical University, Karlsplatz 13, 1040 Wien
Room: Kuppelsaal, staircase 1, 4th floor

The organisers are trying to record to video the talk, and spread it later if it’s will be available. I will give the links here.

  1. Well, how long do you have to work? The real problem is that I don’t know how long the doors will stay open for the RMS talk. I suspect that they may close them at exactly 20:00 or even earlier if the talk is really packed. I have looked at the trains and noticed that if you can catch the railjet RJ 42 (17:10 from Budapest-Keleti pu, 17:24 from Budapest-Kelenföld, 18:32 from Györ), you are scheduled to arrive at Wien Meidling at 19:46. (But trains can get delayed, unfortunately.) From there, public transport (U6 (direction Floridsdorf) to Längenfeldgasse at 19:51, U4 (direction Heiligenstadt) at 19:54, arrival in Karlsplatz at 20:01) will bring you to the venue slightly late, a taxi may or may not be faster. Unfortunately, as I said, I don’t know if they’ll let people in late or if it’ll be so packed that they’ll close down even before 20:00. (I’ve read that RMS talks are often on the packed side.)

Volker Fröhlich and me are planning to attend in any case.

  2. Thanks the help Kevin, but I’ll work in nightly workshift – so there is no chance to attend – sadly….. Enjoy the meeting… maybe next time.

  3. That’s too bad. I’m sure we’ll meet again some day, maybe at next year’s Linuxwochen?

  4. And if RMS gives another talk somewhere near some day, count on me to let you know as soon as I find out.

  5. Hey Zoltan, yes RMS is a big deal. We brought him in Kosovo in the June of 2010. Heres a photo with me and him: http://ur1.ca/4l2ti
