During June 2009 Albert Molina, Xavier Gassó and Abel Parera were preparing acts for the first conference dedicated to free software in Berga and Albert Molina proposed that the council could be asked to give a street name of free software
Due that Albert was working at that time at the city council, it seemed better to enter an instance with this request by someone outside, and Xavier Gassó was responsible for this task.
Months passed and this instance was buried without an answer.
In January 2010, while beginning to prepare for the conference proceedings 2010, Albert and Xavier tried to contact political leaders to advance the idea, while in contact with Mr. Richard Stallman to give a conference using the possible opening of the street.
Finally, the actions of continuous contact with policy makers, and were successful on 10 June 2010 the council adopted in Berga a resolution that named “Carrer del Programari Lliure” (catalan translation of Free Software Street) to the street proposed by Albert.
On 3 July, at 20:00, the mayor of Berga Mr. Juli Gendrau accompanied by Mr. Richard Stallman Inaugurates the street.
