I know, not usual thing about to write an new contributor arrival to our Fedora planet, but I feel that has real potential to must do it. I have earlier made successful contact an with an new contributor, who wants to be a part of our Design team. I have heard about her works, and tried to reach her – because she and their classmates are creating awesome patterns, graphics, and paintings. Not many times happens that a girl directly wants to contribute their designs to our disposal under CC-BY-SA license. When we first time met, we talked a lot, and tried to show our works around Fedora – and it seemed to me that she really likes it. Sylvia SemenovHer name is Sylvia (on the left), and she is the first artist from our Western Hungarian University, Szombathely – Art & Design faculty with handcraft specialisation, as textile technician. She loves creating patterns (even as beloved hobby), and mainly dealing with silk screen techniques and their implementation at school. But she has also an degree as an qualified clothes technician. As she says:

“My life now revolves around patterns and textiles. This is a most serious hobby. In my free time I like painting, sewing, batik textiles. But of course, all this while I am open to many things. I like to challenge myself. I have already into signed FAS account, and Zoltan will lead through rest of the process as my time allows (and get acquainted with Fedora Design spin), and I hope that I gain more help from Fedora designers.”

We have agreed that I need to and must visit this university to have an talk about Fedora and our Design spin. By the way, I’m not a pro in design and graphics, but I really would like to have someone who makes talk here once if I gain more contacts and succeed, because I have asked that let us in into their classroom later on.

Oh, and here is one more thing what Sylvia has left to our community through me. Her first free wave of patterns. Yeah, and she promised that there will be more, what includes clothes designs too. Currently I have these files zipped at my fedora people FTP, so if you need such files – go grab it from here. So, I’m really happy to have her on our side – and I will be on it that to get more contributors as she is.

Fedora Health Care / Bio Lab / ER Diagnostics Lab spin

Filed Under (fedora, health care, spins) by admin on 02-07-2010

After my first learned line is medic assistant, I thought around that theme what could happen, if Fedora has an Fedora Health Care / Bio Lab / ER Diagnostics Lab spin… so I have attached to the Fedora Medical SIG. Why?

I could imagine an network installation, where the doctor just boots through PXE our system, chooses the system mode and installs/uses/runs in live her/his netbook computer itself as an diagnostic tool. Surveillance devices chained up to USB, like blood pressure watch, EKG, EEG, small chemlab for blood, saliva, urine analyse, microscopic picture analyse, X-ray analyse or even more – with internet connection – remotely connected with the analysers or the lab itself based on open source could be the “bulls eye”.

Telehealth systems isn’t cheap, but when we counting in open source systems (like Fedora), and mobiles, including netbooks – then I feel we’re very near to create something that makes “waves” in parts of health care industry. A way what let me think… There are systems, where the sensor cables are ending with clips, could be used at any time for quick diagnostics. But if you are using this idea to have an complete laboratory – you could do that too. For example: There are digital microscopes what is also creatable cheaply even by DIY (http://www.instructables.com/id/Build-a-USB-Digital-Microscope-in-60min-and-15/) – (btw. THIS has an another possibility for electronic devices as AOI) .

With that, in center of our os and its softwares, we could apply this Lab spin in very wide spectrum purpose. From fast, emergency analyser machine till an complete intranet connected hospital mobile diagnostics or monitoring (and data recording) machine – where the hospital/medic only need is an netbook, usb hub and cables with clips… That’s right. At least 3 different types of usage are so tightly nearby that I could see the replace a tons of quite expensive tools to one tool:

Small netbook (or CULV notebook) Linux and softwares, and network – and you’ve got an whole laboratory or even an tool for education. You couldn’t believe to me? Check them out these links, and think and do with us further if I inspired you.

Ps. As far as I know this spin has the most potential between the SIG’s and the spins.
